About StarCoach AI
StarCoach AI is AI-powered math coaching for students entering grades 6-9, delivered as a summer program. Unlike apps that just identify gaps and drill problems, it coaches your child through each problem with a multi-turn conversation that doesn't move on until they actually understand. Students earn game breaks for completing workshops, which is why they end up doing it voluntarily, even on weekends.
Phil Daro co-authored the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics - the framework used in most U.S. states - and is one of the foremost experts on how students learn math and why they disengage. As StarCoach AI's Curriculum Architect, his involvement means the design is grounded in decades of research, not generic test prep.
Khan shows your child a video and, if they are wrong, tells them the answer and moves on. StarCoach AI has a real back-and-forth conversation, gives specific feedback on the exact mistake, and does not advance until your child demonstrates understanding. Pilot students described the difference as having "a friend on my side" vs. watching a lecture.
The programs
A consolidation program for students moving up a grade. It's built around 3 research-backed review topics per grade - the prior-year skills research shows students need solid - delivered through about 33 AI-coached workshops over the 8-week summer. Available for entering grades 6, 7, 8, and Algebra 1. Every workshop is aligned to a specific Illustrative Mathematics lesson and Common Core standard.
Targeted prep for the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) - the standardized math test used in about 20 states (grades 6-8): 6 workshops of 10 AI-coached questions each, focused on the most-tested skills, with animated walkthroughs and a StarDragon break. In our Spring 2026 pilot, students who completed workshops gained +14.2 points on average (n=48).
The SBA Booster is 6 workshops of 10 questions each, typically over 3-6 weeks at ~15 min/session. Summer Bridge is about 33 workshops per grade across 3 topics, designed for ~4 sessions/week over the 8-week summer at 15-20 min each. Both are self-paced.
Yes. Summer Bridge includes a standard track and an ELL (Spanish-first) track with adapted coaching language and extra scaffolding. You select it during enrollment.
Yes - many families do. The SBA Booster focuses on test-taking; Summer Bridge builds next year's foundation. Buy both in a single checkout; each gets its own Class ID.
What your child experiences
When your child submits an answer, the AI reads their work, names what is right and what to adjust, and gives targeted feedback - a real conversation, not "try again." It uses scaffolded hints: a nudge, then a clue, then a parallel worked example - never the original answer. It continues until they understand. Some conversations go 20, 50, even 100 exchanges. It does not quit.
StarDragon is the built-in mini-game your child earns after completing each workshop. Teachers in our pilot reported students asking "aren't we gonna do StarCoach today?" and doing homework to earn game time.
It evaluates both the answer and the explanation. For most problems your child shows their reasoning - and the AI can tell a reasoned solution from a guess. If the explanation does not match, coaching continues.
Enrollment & access
Create a parent account (Google sign-in or email), choose your program and your child's grade, apply your PTSA code if you have one ($60 -> $50), and pay via Stripe. You'll immediately receive a Class ID for your child to sign in.
The SBA Booster opens Monday, June 15, 2026, and Summer Bridge opens Monday, June 22, 2026. You can enroll any time from June 10; programs unlock on their start date, with later Bridge workshops releasing through the summer.
At the student page they enter their Class ID and their school student ID number as a PIN - the same number they use for school lunch and computer login. No email, no custom password to forget.
Yes. Your parent dashboard shows each program's Class ID, session count, stars earned, workshops completed, and last active date. Individual coaching conversations stay private between your child and the coach.
Pricing & billing
$60 per program, or $50 with a PTSA group discount code. One-time payment - no subscription, no recurring charges. Full access through the end of summer.
Your school's PTSA may have a discount code - ask your PTSA board or check parent communications. The $50 price applies automatically when a valid code is entered.

Privacy, safety & schools
Yes. We've completed a Washington State NDPA review for district use, we don't sell student data or share it with advertisers, and for students under 13 we require verified parental consent during enrollment, per COPPA.
Yes. StarCoach AI is built on and aligned to the Illustrative Mathematics 6-8 curriculum; every Summer Bridge workshop cites its IM unit/lesson and Common Core standard, cross-referenced against the IM 360 scope and sequence.
